Be part of a community working together to make science better. A society publisher with the perfect blend of not-for-profit purpose and commercial perspective. Here, we help each other be the best we can be: a team big enough to impact and small enough to care.

Are you excited by the opportunity to shape enterprise architecture that unlocks real business value? Do you enjoy partnering with stakeholders to bring alignment and translating complex needs into clear, coherent, future ready solutions? If so, this could be the perfect role for you.

IOP Publishing is embarking on an exciting modernisation journey, and we're seeking an Enterprise Solution Architect who not only brings thought leadership, clarity, and alignment across our technology landscape, but also excels in fostering collaboration and building strong relationships with cross-functional teams, including the Transformation Office and key stakeholders.

In this pivotal role, you will define and champion our enterprise architecture vision, ensuring our systems and solutions are cohesive, sustainable, and strategically aligned. You will partner closely with project teams to support delivery, facilitate decision making, and drive successful outcomes, all while maintaining strong alignment with organisational priorities. This is an exceptional opportunity for someone who thrives on solving complex problems, influencing without direct authority, and guiding teams towards best practice and pragmatic architecture decisions.

Your interpersonal and people skills will be invaluable as you inspire, educate, and bring together diverse groups to achieve shared goals.

This is a 12 month Fixed Term Contract.

What you’ll be doing

As our Enterprise Solution Architect, you will:

  • Build strong cross‑functional relationships with stakeholders across the business.
  • Refine our open architecture strategy, aligning with organisational priorities.
  • Maintain a holistic view of systems, for cohesion, reuse, and long‑term capability.
  • Champion best practice, inspiring colleagues and fostering an enterprise culture.
  • Promote awareness of the EA roadmap and ensure clear, accessible documentation.
  • Integrate into project teams, collaborating to ensure optimum outcomes.
  • Deliver high quality solution consultancy and architectural blueprints for projects.
  • Translate business strategy into actionable technical solutions and architectural plans.
  • Evaluate systems to identify enhancements, optimise performance, and ensure alignment with the IOPP technology estate.
  • Participate in our architecture assurance group, providing high quality guidance and recommendations in support of project and technology decision making.
  • Maintain our standard set of NFRs and support tender evaluations.
  • Provide straightforward architectural guidelines, guardrails, and support to ensure uniformity in systems design.
About you

  • Strong background in architecture assurance.
  • Experience supporting change and transformation initiatives.
  • Broad understanding of enterprise technologies, tools, and practices.
  • Previous experience in an enterprise architect role (ideal but not essential).

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to simplify the complex.
