Payroll Manager

We’re looking for a Payroll Manager to lead the payroll function for a business with approximately 1,500 employees across multiple sites.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced payroll professional who enjoys taking ownership of end-to-end payroll operations, improving processes, and acting as the go-to payroll expert across the organisation.

Reporting into the Financial Operations Manager, you’ll work closely with Finance, HR and operational teams to ensure payroll is delivered accurately, compliantly and on time.

• Manage end-to-end payroll (two 4-weekly and two monthly payrolls)
• Process salary changes, tronc, statutory payments and deductions
• Complete payroll journals and balance sheet reconciliations
• Ensure compliance with UK payroll legislation and HMRC requirements
• Handle payroll queries across the business
• Support audits, HMRC queries and pension submissions
• Lead the transition to payrolling benefits (April 2027)
• Ensure National Minimum Wage compliance and strong payroll controls

• Proven experience managing payroll in a fast-paced environment
• Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation and compliance
• Experience with tronc administration is highly beneficial
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with payroll systems (Fourth experience helpful)
• Strong communication skills and the ability to partner with teams across the business
