White Horse Employment is partnering with a well‑known FMCG business in Somerset, supporting their search for an experienced Payroll Specialist. This role plays a key part in ensuring payroll processes run smoothly and accurately, while supporting compliance, reporting, and system management.
The successful candidate will take end‑to‑end ownership of payroll for the business, where they will be responsible for approximately 400 employees on a monthly payroll.
Day‑to‑day responsibilities will include:- Provide payroll administration support, including covering payroll processing when required.
- Take ownership of the Time & Attendance system, including providing training and improving management capability through trend analysis.
- Collate and produce payroll reports and dashboards, including monthly reporting.
- Consolidate payroll data ready for submission to the Head of Finance.
- Conduct spot checks for payroll changes including new starters, leavers, and contractual amendments.
- Ensure payroll processes remain compliant with current legislation and internal policies.
- Provide payroll‑related information and insights to senior management to support decision‑making and continuous improvement.
- Collate and produce data for statutory reporting including Gender Pay Gap reporting, P11D’s and Death in Service information.
- Maintain strict confidentiality when handling sensitive employee data.
- Keep up to date with pay‑related legislation and statutory benefits.
- Support the People team and other departments where payroll knowledge or expertise is required.
- Previous experience using payroll software.
- Experience working within an in‑house payroll function.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work to tight deadlines and manage competing priorities.
- High level of computer literacy, including Microsoft Office programmes.
- Payroll qualification (CIPP Level
3) preferred.
