Specialist Speech and Language Therapist

Come and join our supportive multidisciplinary team providing stroke care to people in their own homes and local community. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to take the next step in their career or an experienced therapist looking for an exciting community role.

This role gives the opportunity for professional development, supervision of staff and involvement in service development.

We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist with a passion for stroke rehabilitation and team working to join us and help to develop the provision of specialist communication and swallowing rehab.

Main duties of the job
  • To provide specialist speech and language therapy assessment, diagnosis and treatment to adults with communication and swallowing problems within the adult SLT service and stroke team
  • To work independently with the support and supervision of clinical leads
  • To work in patients' homes and community
  • To work as an integrated member of the SLT team and stroke team
  • To work with members of the multidisciplinary stroke team, including nursing, therapists and assistant staff
  • To be involved in ongoing training to the multidisciplinary team.
  • To be part of a wider network of SLTs in Sirona including peer supervision and support
  • To receive clinical and operational leadership from the Clinical Specialist SLT for stroke

Person Specification Qualifications
  • HCPC registered/RCSLT member
  • Educated to degree or equivalent (SLT)
knowledge and experience
  • Specialist knowledge and experience of a wide range of therapeutic models of working with communication disorders and dysphagia in adults with neurological and medical conditions
  • Experience of working as core member of MDT
  • Experience supervising junior staff
  • Advanced dysphagia skills:
    Independent working with patients with complex dysphagia in a range of acute settings/ with multiple aetiologies
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • E xperience of working with adults with communication / swallowing disorders after stroke in a community setting
