Job Overview

To work within the Midwifery Team providing care at Eastwood Park Prison, based in Thornbury Outpatients Department.

The Assistant Practitioner (Maternity) (AP) is an experienced Maternity Support Worker who has received additional training and competency attainment against a specific set of clinical activities. They are a core member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team.

Main duties of the job

Assistant Practitioners will utilise their enhanced skills across a range of maternity services, supporting the delivery of integrated maternity services for birthing people, newborn infants and their families during pregnancy, labour and the postnatal period. The role holder will liaise with a number of community and hospital-based services to enhance the service offered to birthing people, their newborn infants and families through the direct delivery of care, and as a point of contact for support or signposting.

Job Description And Main Responsibilities

Assistant Practitioners will support and work under the supervision of a registered practitioner to deliver high quality, compassionate, inclusive and equitable health care to people in accordance with assessed needs and a care plan, within their area of responsibility. The role holder will carry out a range of clinical and non-clinical healthcare, or therapeutic tasks, under the direct or indirect supervision of the registered healthcare practitioner, including providing support to birthing people, newborn infants and families who have complex care and support needs.

  • A minimum of 2 A Levels OR A Health & Science T-Level OR a Certificate of Higher Education OR Significant clinical experience within health and social care settings relevant to role
  • Advanced Level Apprenticeship (Level
    3) OR FdSci Health and Social Care OR Local/national training package with appropriate maternity focus OR ability and willingness to undertake necessary courses to evidence this level.
