As we move forward with our strategy and develop our services, we are recruiting forBand 3 Palliative Care Support Workersto join the Inpatient Unit (IPU) Team.
If you are a dedicated and proactive Health Care Assistant/ Support Worker with an interest in working in End-of-Life Care we would like to hear from you.
Joining the Hospice in this role will involve providing specialist palliative care for our patients and support for their families. You will also work closely with the registered nurses and the wider multi-disciplinary team to ensure a holistic approach to care.
To provide direct nursing care to patients on the inpatient unit
To participate in and deliver care for patients requiring symptom control, terminal care, psychological, social, and spiritual care.
To work a variety of shift patterns and lengths of shift dependant on patient requirement
To clearly document all care given
To work collaboratively with MDT

Within this enhanced role the post holder will support and work closely with the registered nurses to deliver a high standard of care to patients, families, and their careers in a safe and supportive environment without the need for direct supervision.
To be an active member of the multi- professional team
The post holder will always maintain a compassionate and professional attitude
Contributes to the high-quality safe care given on the inpatient unit and St Peters Hospice Contributes to the positive, inclusive, and supportive culture of the inpatient unit.
Participates in the training of other healthcare assistants and other members of the team.
Understands own level of responsibility and accountability in relation to registered staff.
Communicate clearly effectively and appropriately with the multidisciplinary team, patients and their family, visitors, and carers.
Assist and provide personal care to patients.
Following appropriate training undertake a range of specific clinical skills for patients that demonstrate an enhanced level of competency.
Complete documentation of care in line with SPH Documentation standards using both paper and electronic systems.
The post holder will function at a competency level in line with the requirements of the post and achieve and maintain both mandatory and statutory training requirements associated with the role.
Demonstrate working in line with the IPU behaviour framework
Communication
Maintain a high standard of personal behaviour and ensure effective communication with all members of the multidisciplinary team, patients, carers, and relatives.
Able to recognise that there may be a need to utilise alternative methods of communication.
Use paper and electronic systems to retrieve and record patient information
Communicate with patients, carers, and families in a sensitive, supportive, and caring manner, considering their individual personal beliefs and preferences.
Apply the principles of information governance and patient confidentiality to all aspect of their role.
Actively participate and contribute to discussions about patient care and department issues at handover and unit meetings.
