Job Overview

To provide an efficient and sympathetic “first point of contact” to patients, relatives and staff who attend an outpatient appointment, ensuring that processes are followed in relation to booking in, checking out and cashing up in the Bristol Breast Care Centre. To provide a responsive service to all patients making contact with the Bristol Breast Care Centre, ensuring that their queries are dealt with sympathetically and that processes are adhered to and appointments are booked in accordance with the Patient Access Policy.

To ensure clinics are appropriately prepped and to support and work closely with other members of the admin team, ensuring workload is managed efficiently and tasks are prioritised appropriately.

Main duties of the job
  • To welcome patients, staff and visitors in a polite and friendly manner, dealing with enquiries in an efficient and timely fashion.
  • To provide support to the Bristol Breast Care Centre admin team, providing a high quality and comprehensive telephone/admin service for patients contacting the centre.
  • To use Trust computer systems to undertake all processes required for the outpatient visit and to arrange follow up appointments in accordance with booking procedures for both face to face and telephone appointments.
  • To ensure that all clinics are cashed up and Do Not Attends are accounted for.
  • To arrange appropriate ambulance or taxi transport for patients attending the appointment as per Trust policy.
  • To ensure that clinics are appropriately prepped and any changes to clinics communicated to the wider team.
  • To alert and liaise with the clinician in charge in the event of a patient requiring prompt/immediate attention.
  • To maintain a safe environment for patients and staff, raising concerns where appropriate, completing the necessary documentation regarding any incident.
  • The post holder will contribute to their own personal development and participate in training or learning and development activities.
  • To undertake any such duties commensurate with the banding role and the post holder should treat this job outline as flexible subject to the development needs of the Bristol Breast Care Centre service.
