Calling all Band 6 Registered Mental Health Nurses looking for a new challenge! We are looking for someone to join in a part time, substantive position within the Later Life Liaison Psychiatry team at the Bristol Royal Infirmary. We are looking to appoint a dynamic, experienced and committed mental health nurse to join our friendly and supportive team working with patients over the age of 65.

The post holder will work as part of our team to deliver a high standard of care which is least restrictive, goal focused and patient centred. This is a part time post – 25 hours per week. The team operates Monday to Friday 09.00 – 17.00. Main duties of the job
  • Utilise clinical expertise, education and management to ensure a seamless service for patients, carers and staff.
  • Undertake specialist psychosocial assessments, reviews and advice regarding ongoing management of Later Life patients; deliver a range of psychosocial interventions to individual patients and their families as appropriate.
  • Assist and support general hospital colleagues in making decisions about treatment and care in complex situations; at all times with a focus on advocating for our patients.
  • Use high level communication skills, both written and oral, and have an ability to engage with challenging and/or acutely distressed individuals in sometimes potentially hostile and/or antagonistic situations.
  • Provide a communication structure between the general hospital, secondary MH services, primary care and non-statutory services as a means of ensuring the highest possible standards of patient care.

The Later Life Liaison Psychiatry Team provide mental health assessments and care for Older Adults within UHBW. The Team sits within the wider Liaison Psychiatry Service and comprises a Consultant Psychiatrist, senior medical staff, Senior Practitioner, mental health liaison nurses and administrators.

The team work from 09.00- 17.00 Monday to Friday.
