Summary:

We are seeking a highly experienced and technically proficient individual to take on the role of Associate Flood Modeller, responsible for technically leading and managing a dedicated flood modelling team. The successful candidate will be pivotal in driving the technical excellence and delivery of our flood risk projects, ensuring all work adheres to the highest standards of quality and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership:

Provide expert technical direction and oversight for all flood modelling projects undertaken by the team. This includes model development, simulation execution, and interpretation of results for a diverse portfolio of schemes. Model Development and Expertise:

Be the team's subject matter expert in industry-standard hydraulic modelling software. Essential experience is required in:
Flood Modeller:

Extensive knowledge and practical experience in 1D models. TUFLOW:

Extensive knowledge and practical experience in 1D/2D coupled models for river, coastal, and urban environments. ESTRY:

Proficiency in applying 1D network modelling for integrated catchment management and drainage assessments. Info Works ICM (Integrated Catchment Modelling):

Demonstrable experience in its application for integrated surface water modelling and 1D/2D flood modelling. Quality Assurance and Control (QA/QC):

Implement and maintain rigorous quality assurance procedures for all modelling outputs. This involves meticulous review and auditing of models, data inputs, and reports to guarantee accuracy, robustness, and fitness for purpose. Regulatory Compliance:

Ensure all flood modelling work, including hydrological assessments, is undertaken strictly in line with relevant national standards, best practice guidelines, and the specific requirements of the Environment Agency (EA) and other regulatory bodies. Hydrology:

A strong background and practical experience in applying hydrological methods, including FEH (Flood Estimation Handbook) methodologies, rainfall-runoff modelling, and statistical flood frequency analysis, is essential to accurately inform and calibrate hydraulic models. Team Development:

Mentor and coach junior and mid-level modellers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing within the team. Project Delivery:

Collaborate closely with Project Managers to ensure timely, on
-budget and efficient delivery of high-quality technical outputs that meet client expectations and project objectives. Essential

Experience and Skills:

Proven experience in a technical lead or senior flood modeller role with ideally 10 years or above experience in the field. Deep technical expertise in the specified modelling software (Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, ESTRY, Info Works ICM). A comprehensive understanding of UK flood risk policy and the planning process. Demonstrable experience in reviewing and signing off complex flood models for regulatory submission (e.g., to the Environment Agency).

Experienced in applying using UK hydrological methodologies (such as the Flood Estimation Handbook) Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the requirements below:
