Salary: £40,000 - £47,000
I’m currently working with a well-established and growing compliance and water hygiene specialist that is looking to strengthen its engineering team with the appointment of an experienced Water Treatment Plant Engineer. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with solid plant and remedial experience who wants to join a business that genuinely values technical quality, compliance standards, and long-term client relationships.
The company has built a strong reputation across the commercial and industrial sectors and continues to grow steadily throughout the region.
The Role
In this position, you will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, servicing, and repair of water treatment systems and associated equipment, ensuring full compliance with Legionella control standards. The role has a strong focus on water softeners, chlorine dioxide dosing systems, and UV disinfection units, alongside general plumbing and remedial works linked to water hygiene compliance.
Your day-to-day duties will involve installing and commissioning water softeners, chlorine dioxide systems, UV units, and in some cases reverse osmosis systems. You will carry out planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, and fault finding, while monitoring system performance to ensure ongoing compliance with water quality standards and Legionella regulations. You will also assess site requirements and advise on suitable plant types and system sizing where necessary.
Alongside plant responsibilities, the role includes remedial and plumbing works such as TMV installation, servicing and maintenance, tank replacements and refurbishments, pipework modifications including dead-leg removal, and upgrades to water heaters and calorifiers. General plumbing works connected to water hygiene compliance will also form part of your remit.
From an operational perspective, you will build strong working relationships with clients, providing technical support on site and representing the business professionally at all times. Accurate completion of service documentation and compliance records is essential, as is ensuring tools, equipment, and PPE are prepared and maintained in line with company procedures. You will also be expected to adhere strictly to health and safety policies, report hazards appropriately, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the team.
What My Client Is Looking For
The ideal candidate will have proven experience installing, commissioning, and fault-finding on water treatment plant equipment, particularly water softeners, chlorine dioxide systems, and UV units. Strong remedial plumbing experience within water hygiene environments is essential, along with solid mechanical and diagnostic skills.
A sound understanding of L8, HSG
274, and Legionella control regulations is required, as well as the ability to interpret risk assessments and implement effective control measures. You should be confident working on commercial water systems and have a good grasp of health and safety practices, including COSHH. An NVQ Level 2 in Plumbing and Heating (or equivalent) is preferred, and Legionella-related certification would be advantageous but not essential.
A full UK driving licence is required for the role.
What’s On Offer
In return, my client offers strong job security within a growing and stable business, along with genuine opportunities for career progression. The package includes annual leave increasing up to 25 days with long service, paid overtime opportunities, a fully equipped company van, and a company mobile phone. There is also access to a health plan and Employee Assistance Programme, alongside supportive management that values technical expertise and long-term development
