Position: Engineer (Democratic) - Highway Improvements

Our client is seeking a Highway Improvements Engineer to join their team, playing a vital role in delivering essential infrastructure upgrades. This position involves supporting the planning, programme, and project management of highway improvement initiatives, ensuring that public engagement and democratic processes are seamlessly integrated into project delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in managing highway improvement projects, ensuring they meet democratic and statutory requirements
  • Coordinate with project teams, design engineers, technicians, and external partners to deliver projects effectively
  • Support programme and project management activities, including scheduling and resource planning
  • Engage with the public, elected members, and stakeholders during consultation and engagement events
  • Attend meetings, exhibitions, and out-of-hours consultation events as required
  • Maintain effective communication channels with contractors, external agencies, and internal teams
  • Assist in monitoring project progress, reporting on milestones, and resolving issues promptly
  • Support the delivery of highway improvement initiatives that enhance infrastructure resilience and safety
Job Requirements
  • Experience in highway or transportation projects, infrastructure, or other related sectors
  • Understanding of highway improvement processes, stakeholder engagement, and democratic procedures
  • Regional knowledge of local authority project management
  • Good communication skills, with experience engaging with elected members and the public
  • Ability to work effectively in a team, supporting project delivery and administrative tasks
  • Willingness to travel as required and participate in out-of-hours meetings and events
  • Relevant background in civil engineering, transportation planning, or project management
