Job DescriptionAs a result of our continued success and growth in the UK, we’re looking for full-time Senior Structural Engineers to join our team working on Nuclear New Build projects, focusing on Nuclear Island buildings of Hinkley Point C, Sizewell C, and similar projects. You will reinforce your technical skills on the most complex buildings of a Nuclear Power Plant and collaborate in a multi-cultural environment to deliver outstanding results for our clients.
As a Senior Structural Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety, integrity and reliability of nuclear power plant structures. You will be responsible for managing and leading an international team in addition to various aspects of the design and structural analysis of reinforced concrete or steel structures.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and lead an international team responsible for critical buildings within the Nuclear Island.
- Design and analyse reinforced concrete structures for the Nuclear Buildings of EPR nuclear power plants.
- Perform structural calculations and Finite Element modelling using ANSYS APDL or similar advanced software and tools, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards such as Eurocode, ETC-C.
- Ensure the structural integrity and resilience of reinforced concrete structures under various loads, including seismic, dynamic, impact of temporary works related to the construction sequence, and environmental factors.
- Collaborate with detailing team including drafting team, BIM Coordinator, and other designer engineers as well as the technical direction team to ensure coordination and integration of design requirements.
- Conduct calculations and structural assessments of design changes to determine the impact on reinforced concrete structures and propose necessary design modifications.
- Prepare detailed design drawings, specifications, and construction documentation for the reinforced concrete structures.
- Conduct structural assessments and evaluations during construction and provide technical support as needed.
- Work closely with construction contractors and site teams to resolve any structural issues or challenges during the construction phase.
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and draftsmen involved in the structural design and detailing process.
- Collaborate with the client, construction team, and the principal designer as well as regulatory bodies and authorities to ensure compliance with nuclear safety regulations and requirements.
- With a background of working within the nuclear industry or another highly heavy industry sector, you’ll have an established career in Civil Structural Engineering, ideally with a Masters in Civil Engineering or an equivalent relevant subject. Additionally, you will also have the following:
- Proven experience in Structural Civil Work, Civil Design, RC detailing, steel structures with ETC-C or Eurocodes or other relevant codes.
- Proven experience working on the design and analysis of reinforced concrete structures for nuclear power plants, specifically with European Pressurized Reactors (EPR).
- Sound knowledge of nuclear safety principles, regulations, and standards governing the design and construction of nuclear power plant structures.
- Proficiency in using structural analysis software, such as ANSYS, SAP
2000, or similar tools. - Familiarity with structural analysis Finite Element software, such as ANSYS APDL, Robot, or similar tools.
- Strong understanding of seismic analysis and design principles for nuclear structures.
