GKN Aerospace is calling on aspiring engineers for 12-month internships at our Global Technology Centre (GTC) in Filton, Bristol. This opportunity provides invaluable experience and a great start to your career in aviation within the £32 million research hub at the heart of world-class advancements in zero-emission aircraft technology.
How You'll Contribute The Hydrogen Systems Engineering team is working to develop electrical-cryogenic systems in the following areas:
Mechanical Engineering:
Projects which involve prototyping, cryogenics, manufacturing, and testing. At our facility we have a world-class cryogenics lab where youll get exposure to hands-on research and development. Systems Engineering and Design:
Simulation and analysis, Verification and Validation (V&V), and Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE). This role provides experience on real world aircraft systems using cutting-edge software to integrate complex design elements. Software, Controls and Electronics:
Control strategy development for the next generation of aircraft electrical systems. Responsibilities will include hands-on testing in our electronics lab and software development. As part of the Hydrogen Systems Engineering team, youll get exposure to a cutting-edge research environment with motivated leading industry experts. These roles will provide hands on exposure to the development of novel technologies that enable the next generation of aircraft.
What You'll Bring If youre working towards a Masters degree in mechanical, aerospace, electrical engineering, physics or a related field, this is your chance to contribute. We are looking for:
On-track for a 2:1 or higher in your respective degree. Technical know-how as well as practical experience ideally within Design, Cryogenics, Electronics, Control systems or Systems Engineering. Demonstrated hands-on practical experience. You have a can do attitude and positive inclusive mind-set. You have an interest in Engineering &/or aviation and would enjoy working in an exciting aerospace company. Can demonstrate a logical approach to problem-solving and excellent technical communication skills.
What We'll Offer We have three positions available for aspiring engineers to join our Hydrogen Technology teams on a year-long placement for academic year 26/27. The expected start date is August/September 2026.
