Senior Structural Engineer

Overview

Senior Structural Engineer role focused on Nuclear Island buildings for EPR nuclear power plants, including Hinkley Point C and Sizewell

C. Based in the UK, the role involves reinforcing technical skills on complex nuclear structures, leading an international team, and delivering design and analysis that ensure safety, integrity, and reliability of reinforced concrete and steel structures.

• Manage and lead an international team responsible for critical buildings within the Nuclear Island.
• Design and analyse reinforced concrete structures for the Nuclear Buildings of EPR nuclear power plants.
• Perform structural calculations and Finite Element modelling using ANSYS APDL or similar tools, ensuring compliance with Eurocode, ETC-C, and other applicable codes.
• Ensure structural integrity and resilience of reinforced concrete structures under seismic, dynamic, temporary works, construction sequence, and environmental loads.
• Collaborate with detailing, BIM coordination, drafting, and technical direction teams to coordinate and integrate design requirements.
• Assess design changes for impact on reinforced concrete structures and propose necessary modifications.
• Prepare detailed design drawings, specifications, and construction documentation for reinforced concrete structures.
• Conduct structural assessments during construction and provide technical support as needed.
• Work with construction contractors and site teams to resolve structural issues during construction.
• Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and draftsmen involved in structural design and detailing.
• Collaborate with client, construction team, principal designer, regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with nuclear safety regulations.

• Background in nuclear or similarly high-risk industries with a strong Civil Structural Engineering track record;
  Master’s in Civil Engineering or equivalent is preferred.
• Experience in structural design and analysis of reinforced concrete and steel structures for nuclear power plants, specifically with European Pressurized Reactors (EPR).
• Knowledge of nuclear safety principles, regulations, and standards governing design and construction of nuclear power plant structures.
• Proficiency in structural analysis software (e.g., ANSYS, SAP
  2000) and related Finite Element tools (e.g., ANSYS APDL, Robot).
• Strong understanding of seismic design principles for nuclear structures.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and attention to detail; effective communication and collaboration skills across multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience with on-site design support and working with contractors to implement engineering solutions is preferred.
• Experience with 3D BIM modelling tools (e.g., TEKLA, Navisworks) is a plus.
• Professional licensure or chartership is advantageous.
