Senior/Principal Environmental Consultant for the Water Sector

Join Arup to embed effective management of land, air and water through planning, delivery and operation of new and retrofit projects. Focus areas include air quality, biodiversity, noise, community engagement, environmental assessment and management, land quality, water, resources and waste, and historic environment protection.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for a Senior or Principal Environmental Consultant who will play a pivotal role in delivering projects that make a tangible difference to communities and the environment. Your expertise will shape sustainable solutions across the water sector, ensuring regulatory compliance and long‑term value.

What You’ll Do
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to integrate environmental considerations into project planning and design.
  • Leading the preparation and coordination of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) reports, ensuring regulatory and client compliance.
  • Building strong relationships with regulatory authorities, stakeholders, and clients.
  • Providing expert advice on environmental policies, regulations and best practice.
  • Monitoring and reporting on the implementation of environmental management plans and compliance with EIA conditions.
What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering or a related field.
  • Full membership of an appropriate institute (e.g. ISEP, CIWEM or equivalent).
  • Professional experience in environmental consulting.
  • Proven track record of managing and delivering complex water‑sector projects.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and sustainability practices; experience of Development Consent Order consenting regime desirable.
