Teacher Active are recruiting a Qualified Science Teacher to join a specialist SEND provision in the Bristol area
, working with KS3/KS4 students studying Science
.
This is a temporary position initially expected to become permanent in September 2026
.
This specialist provision supports young people who may have found mainstream education challenging or inaccessible.
Students within the setting have a range of additional needs
, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
. Many learners have also experienced Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and early childhood trauma, which can impact their engagement with education.
Because of this, the school takes a therapeutic, relationship‑led approach
, prioritising safety, trust and emotional regulation alongside academic learning.
Classes are very small, typically 1–3 students
, and are supported by an HLTA or Teaching Assistant
, allowing for highly personalised teaching and strong relationship building.
Learning is delivered through a holistic and flexible curriculum
, combining academic subjects with practical, creative and outdoor learning experiences such as horticulture, craft and land‑based activities. This approach helps students build confidence, independence and life skills
, while working towards recognised qualifications.
The successful candidate will:
- Adapt teaching to meet the individual learning and emotional needs of students with SEND
- Use creative, practical approaches to make Science accessible and engaging
- Build positive, consistent relationships with students
- Work collaboratively with support staff and the wider pastoral team
- Create a calm, structured learning environment where students feel safe to learn
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Strong knowledge of the GCSE Science curriculum
- Experience working with SEND, SEMH, or neurodiverse learners
- Confidence supporting students with ASC, ADHD and trauma‑related needs
- Excellent behaviour management and de‑escalation skills
- A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection
- Patience, resilience and a genuine commitment to supporting vulnerable young people
