A forward-thinking primary school in South Gloucestershire has developed a small, internal alternative provision to support pupils who are currently unable to access the mainstream classroom. We are seeking a committed and reflective Behaviour Mentor to work primarily with a Year 4 pupil whose learning pathway is bespoke and highly personalised. This is a unique opportunity to make a genuine difference at a critical stage of early intervention.

Responsibilities
  • Designing and delivering tailored, interest-led learning activities
  • Embedding core academic skills into creative tasks
  • Supporting emotional regulation throughout the day
  • Recognising early signs of dysregulation and implementing agreed strategies
  • Managing demand-avoidant behaviours using low-arousal approaches
  • Recording observations and progress updates
  • Liaising closely with the SENCO and senior leadership team
  • Maintaining predictable routines and clear boundaries
  • The pupil leaves school m 2pm–3:30pm, you will support within another classroom as a general Teaching Assistant, assisting with group learning, transitions and classroom routines
The Ideal Candidate
  • Deeply passionate about improving long-term outcomes through early intervention
  • Experience with Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and working with demand-avoidant behaviours
  • Experience supporting children experiencing emotional dysregulation
  • Trauma-informed or attachment-aware practice
  • A background in youth work, sports coaching or mentoring is highly valued, especially if you are confident building relationships through shared interests and structured activities
  • You must be:
    • Calm and emotionally regulated
    • Creative and proactive in planning engaging activities
    • Reflective and open to adapting strategies
    • Firm but nurturing in maintaining boundaries
