Warmley Park School currently has an exciting opportunity for a calm, positive, enthusiastic person to support the health and safety requirements of pupils in this all-age school for pupils with severe learning difficulties and autism. This post is physical in nature and may present emotional and physical demands not common in mainstream schools. The successful applicant will need to have a flexible attitude, be supportive, remain calm and show initiative.

This is a Fixed Term for 12 months. Then subject to budget review.

Working Hours: 8.45am
-3.45pm (32.5 hours per week) or 9.30am
-2.30pm (25 hours)

Monday to Friday, Term Time Only

Salary:
Hay 12 (£25,185 pro rata £14,636 - £19,027)

Job Overview

To attend to the personal needs and social and play needs of all pupils as directed by the Headteacher/Teaching staff. This work will enable teachers and teaching assistants to better and more efficiently meet the educational needs of pupils, by ensuring that pupils’ care needs are well and efficiently met.

To assist with programmed activities as determined by these pupils’ assessed needs, within the policies and practices of the school.

This work will tend to be with pupils with profound and multiple learning needs and/or very complex needs.

Main Duties
  • Under general supervision, to attend to and support individual pupils in meeting their intimate personal care needs, in line with their care plans, including assisting in eating and drinking, both with and without gastrostomy or alternative means.
  • Under general supervision, to contribute towards meeting the social and play needs of pupils, using appropriate methodology and means of communication.
  • Under general supervision, to support specific programmes designed by teachers to develop increasing levels of independence in individual care needs, social development and play, and develop positive, communicative relationships with these pupils.
  • To participate, as required, in the provision of supervisory arrangements for pupils during break times and lunchtimes.
  • To carry out such duties within the scope of the grade and job purpose, as may be allocated.
Job Requirements
  • A minimum of 3 GCSEs at C grade or above, including English and Maths.
  • Experience working with children with severe learning difficulties and disabilities would be an advantage, as would an NVQ level 2 in Care.
  • To undertake appropriate manual handling.
  • Ability to be empathetic and understanding to the needs of students.
