Early Years Teaching Assistant – Speech & Language Support (Mainstream Primary, Yate, South Gloucestershire)

Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm

Pay: From £14.62 per hour

Are you passionate about supporting young children’s speech, language, and communication development? We are recruiting an Early Years TA to join a friendly and supportive primary school team, working directly with children to help develop communication, confidence, and foundational learning skills.

This role is ideal for those interested in SEND, speech and language development, or future careers in education or therapy.

This mainstream primary school provides a nurturing and stimulating environment for early years pupils. Staff work closely with teachers and specialist support teams to embed speech, language, and communication strategies into daily classroom practice. Work directly in classrooms, supporting children with speech, language, and communication needs; gain practical experience applying speech and language strategies in an early years setting; learn from a supportive team of teachers and SEND specialists; and make a real, measurable difference in children’s confidence, communication, and learning outcomes.

• Supporting teachers in speech, language, and communication interventions.
• Delivering structured or play‑based activities to improve communication and social skills.
• Observing, recording, and reporting on children’s progress.
• Encouraging positive behaviour, engagement, and confidence.
• Helping create a safe, inclusive, and communication‑rich classroom environment.
• Supporting early identification of speech, language, and communication difficulties.

• Experience working with young children in nursery or school settings.
• Interest or experience in speech and language support or SEND.
• Patient, caring, and proactive, with excellent communication skills.
• Confident working in one‑to‑one or small group interventions.
• A collaborative team player.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
