Job summary
No matter where you work these days, General Practice is a demanding job, but we are trying our best to enable a sustainable career through a dedicated team for Wellbeing, regular GP team meetings, administrative support to reduce paperwork, an innovative GP access model, and paid overtime for mandatory training. We welcome GPs with special interests who may want to Lead on a particular area.
Outside the practice, Charlotte Keel GPs have roles in Education, Mentoring, the LMC/GPC, Sustainability and Urgent Care, with support for a portfolio career.
Main duties of the job include clinical responsibilities and other organisational duties.
- Clinical responsibilities
- Be available to undertake a proportionate share of surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, triage, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions, and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.
- Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems (self-referred or referred from other health care workers).
- Assess the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
- Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
- Compile and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions, avoiding handwritten prescriptions where possible.
- Prescribe in accordance with the practice formulary (or generically) when clinically appropriate.
- Undertake the normal duties and responsibilities of a GP working within primary care.
- Other responsibilities within the organisation
- Specific responsibility for agreed clinical areas;
Lead GP will discuss and allocate. - Compliance with practice policies/guidelines (prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety).
- Commitment to lifelong learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice.
- Attend training and events organised by the practice or other agencies as appropriate.
- Be a member of the clinical team and attend clinical, education or business meetings as appropriate; maintain close working relationships.
- Seek ways to reduce waste, water and energy usage within the office.
- Specific responsibility for agreed clinical areas;
- GMC-registered GP with a recognised medical degree and fully trained with JCTGP Vocational Training Certificate
- Strong clinical and diagnostic skills across a broad range of patient presentations
- Team-oriented with the ability to build positive relationships and promote a collaborative working culture
- Passion for reducing health inequalities and working in underserved communities
- Able to support and mentor colleagues and contribute to practice meetings and quality initiatives
- Newly qualified GPs (less than 2 years from GMC certificate or training completion) warmly welcomed

Qualification Essential
- Full GMC registration
- Fully trained GP with JCTGP Vocational Training Certificate
- Medical Degree (MBBS, MBChB or equivalent)
Desirable
- Higher post graduate membership (e.g., MRCGP/nMRCGP, MRCP, DRCOG, DCH)
Skills and Experience Essential
- Experience of delivery QOF
- Knowledge of national and local primary care commissioning
Desirable
- Family planning certificate
- Alcohol and substance misuse training
- Familiarity with EMIS
