Overview
The Bristol Urological Institute offers an exciting opportunity to appoint a Senior Clinical Fellow in Urology to commence October 2026. There is plenty opportunity to participate in the ongoing research in the department. The successful candidates will be expected to participate in the service activities in the department. Overseas applicants are expected to be eligible for registration with the General Medical Council and have passed the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a minimum overall score of 7.5. This must be clearly outlined on their application.

Job Overview The Bristol Urological Institute offers an exciting opportunity to appoint a Senior Clinical Fellow in Urology to commence October 2026. The post includes participation in service activities and opportunities for research involvement. It is desirable that candidates have experience with UK hospital systems or equivalent.
Main duties of the jobThe post is educationally sound and well supported, with opportunities for gaining experience in specialised upper tract minimally invasive surgery, focusing on renal cancer surgery (open and minimally invasive approaches), complex upper urinary tract reconstruction (including pyeloplasty) and adrenalectomy. The post holder will participate in a 1:12 on-call rota and will manage ward patients on a day-to-day basis. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in service activities in the department.
TeachingThe Bristol Urological Institute has an active teaching programme. Fellows and Registrars are expected to participate actively. The post holder will undertake teaching sessions for medical students and junior doctors as required and may cover a colleague’s clinical duties to enable teaching sessions.
ResearchA half-day dedicated research session is provided for all fellows/SpRs. There are several ongoing projects, and fellows are expected to participate in these projects as well as undertake at least one audit project during their training.

Person specification QualificationsEssential criteria
- MBBS or equivalent
- Maintain appropriate GMC registration
- FRCS (Urol) or equivalent
- Completed structured training in urology with interest in upper tract robotic surgery
- Evidence of training progression
Desirable criteria
- Higher academic qualification (MD or MS)
- Prizes
- ATLS/ALS
Essential criteria
- Recent experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent)
- Experience as a specialist registrar or equivalent in urology (5 years minimum)
- Strong written and spoken English for medical communication
Desirable criteria
- Experience in upper tract laparoscopic/robotic surgery
