The Bristol Eye Hospital (BEH) at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston Foundation Trust (UHBW) is looking to drive an ambitious future vision of care across Bristol and Weston.

Applications are welcomed for two fixed‑term full‑time Post of Vitreo‑Retina (VR) Surgery Fellows (specialty doctor band).

The successful candidates must start as soon as possible in February/March; the second candidate must be available to start no later than April 2026.

This full‑time post is initially for a 12 month period and provides advanced sub‑specialty experience in posterior segment surgery with an emphasis on surgical skills development.

The post will support a team of five vitreo‑retinal surgery consultants, complement existing Specialist Registrars, and play an active role in the running of the VR firms, including the management of emergencies. The post includes on‑call commitment and will assist with clinical workload.

• Provide advanced posterior segment surgery and medicine for the tertiary referral retina service.
• Manage emergencies and participate in the running of the VR firm.
• Undertake ICH‑GCP training and contribute to research activities, including recruitment and running of clinical trials.
• Support the medical retina service and engage with the clinical research unit.

• Specialty doctor level (post, band appropriate) with interest or experience in vitreo‑retinal surgery.
• Strong surgical skills development focus and ability to work within a 7‑day per week theatre environment.
