Hinkley Point C (HPC) is the first new nuclear power station to be built in the UK in over 20 years. HPC’s two EPR reactors will be capable of generating 3.26 GW of secure, low‑carbon electricity for 60 years, enough electricity to power around 6 million homes. In addition to the projects “clean energy” benefits, HPC will create thousands of jobs and bring lasting benefits to the UK economy.
The Construction Delivery Lead (CDL) forms part of the Construction Delivery Team embedded within the Construction Delivery Group and oversees the construction activities carried out by the Tier 1 contract partners. The CDL reports to the Senior Construction Delivery Manager (SCDM) and is supported by the Construction Delivery Manager(s) (CDM).
The Construction Delivery Lead should look to be out on site 50% of their time and in the office 50%, attending/leading/chairing meetings and producing reports, etc., along with general admin. This ratio is for guidance only and subject to change, either way, due to circumstance at any given point.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and develop their Construction Delivery Managers, to ensure they have a good understanding of site activities and can carry out their role accordingly. Offer support and guidance, along with ensuring that all appropriate training for a CDM is undertaken.
- Fulfil line‑management responsibilities to Construction Delivery Managers.
- Oversee all aspects of Health Safety and Environment during construction activities in their allocated area(s), in accordance with the NNB HPC Construction Phase Plan.
- Undertake and record safety and/or assurance inspections that support the project KPI’s. The tool at HPC for this is INSIGHT.
- Share the Construction Delivery Manager’s responsibilities depending on work area and scope complexity. When nominated by the SCDM, undertake role of Construction Delivery Manager for specific areas as and when required.
- Management of strategic planning of site set up, construction sequencing, recovery plans and resource allocation.
- Good working knowledge of commercial principles affecting construction matters.
- Ability to produce informative, concise reports.
- Motivational approach and the ability to energise team members by building a climate of trust and understanding.
- Considerable working knowledge in the delivery of large complex projects.
- Relevant Degree (or equivalent) in Civil Construction.
- Working understanding of the post holder’s obligations under CDM Regulations.
- NEBOSH, SMSTS or IOSH qualification holder.
