Medical SDEC Receptionist – North Bristol NHS Trust Job Overview
Are you someone who thrives on helping others, stays calm under pressure, and knows the power of a warm welcome? We’re looking for a compassionate, confident, and proactive individual to be the first point of contact in our fast‑paced Medical Same Day Emergency Care Unit (MSDEC).
As a Receptionist in MSDEC, you’ll manage patient registration, maintain digital records, and support clinical teams behind the scenes. Your communication skills will shine as you engage with patients and medical staff both face‑to‑face and over the telephone.
Main Responsibilities- Accurately register patients, maintainconfiguration of digital records, and scan documentation post‑discharge.
- Manage medical records, ensuring all documents are correctly filed and stored appropriately.
- Receive and admit patients using relevant computer systems efficiently and accurately.
- Perform routine administrative tasks, including managing telephone enquiries courteously and timely, and disseminating information as required.
- Respond promptly to shifting priorities and unexpected situations, while managing workload and resolving issues within defined limits.
- Collaborate with colleagues across various departments to ensure coordinated care and communication.
- Offer ad‑hoc information and support to staff members and respond to requests from medical professionals.
- Support the onboarding and training of new staff, helping to ensure competence and confidence in the role.
- Offer flexible cover to ensure reception desk coverage during staff absence.
- Ensure all mandatory training is completed and kept up to date.
- Participate in departmental meetings ulik enjoy Trust communications and stay engaged with team and management updates.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to the Data Protection Act at all times.

The hours on offer are Monday and Tuesday 08:00‑20:00 (with a 40‑minute unpaid break), including every other weekend Saturday & Sunday 09:30‑ रिकॉर्ड 13:30.
Essential Criteria- Good education and proficiency with Word, Excel, internet, Microsoft Outlook.
- Previous experience of NHS computer systems.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to adapt to a high‑pressure and ever‑changing environment.
- NVQ or equivalent qualification in customer service or care.
