Job DescriptionThe Director of the Business Law Clinic and Clinical Professor of Law will direct and teach the assigned clinic. The professor will be responsible for all case supervision, for training and mentoring the students, and for teaching the component class that meets twice each week for two hours each session. During the periods between academic semesters, the professor is responsible for handling all cases and client matters.
Responsibilitiesand Teaching Duties
- Direct and teach an eight-credit clinical program and clearly communicate course expectations to students.
- Supervise up to ten students each semester as they work with clients in determining and facilitating their legal needs.
- Research and recommend texts applicable to clinical program and other delivered teaching presentations.
- Prepare, deliver, and grade examinations and review and grade papers in a timely fashion.
- Explain grades to students.
- Actively network with community organizations in order to determine community needs and to establish a client base for the clinic.
- Attend and participate in events including but limited to Orientation, Commencement, Accepted Students Day, etc.
- J.D. from an American Bar Association approved law school.
- Strong organizational, administrative, and communication skills including public speaking ability.
- Experience supervising law students or newly admitted lawyers.
- Excellent time management skills, ability to prioritize multiple projects, meet deadlines.
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team, as well as the ability to maintain and nurture ongoing professional relationships with law students, alumni, press outlets, law firms, and community-based organizations.
- Intermediate knowledge of MS Office Suite.
- Clinical teaching experience.
- Experience working in business law either at a firm or as in-house counsel.
At the University's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the University, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
