Market Operations Manager (Transportation / Warehouse)

Responsible for the daily operations of a storage center within a designated territory, overseeing day‑to‑day activities, routing, driver assignments, and ensuring compliance with OSHA, DOT, and maintenance programs.

Job Summary

Ensures efficient operation of the storage center, leads associate development, maintains regulatory compliance, and manages assets and finances.

Key Responsibilities Recruiting & Personnel Management
  • Recruit, interview, hire, train, identify and retain top talent.
  • Provide daily support, coaching, and hands‑on/ride‑along training for associates.
  • Support a culture aligned with PODS core values (Integrity, Delighting Customers, Engagement, Accountability, Support Through Teamwork).
  • Effectively administer PODS performance management process.
  • Report employee issues to Territory Manager and Regional HRBP; maintain communication with Human Resources for personnel management.
  • Provide regular communication to team members including goals, business results, opportunities for improvement, and key focus areas.
  • Conduct daily pre‑shift meetings at each Storage Center.
Customer Experience
  • Manage customer experience to meet or exceed PODS CSAT and DSAT goals; follow up, resolve issues, direct customer contact, refine processes, and implement remedial training.
  • Ensure associates meet brand standards (uniforms, containers, equipment) and customer interactions (notification, equipment demonstration, container capabilities, site evaluations, feedback solicitation).
Operational Excellence
  • Manage all corporate owned assets within territory (trucks, forklifts, floor sweepers, containers, etc.).
  • Manage daily routing and ETA/JPH performance for associates; communicate delays to Sales and Serve Center.
  • Determine daily needs based on routing; assign work shifts based on business needs and available HOS.
  • Coordinate repairs per Territory Manager; handle damage at customer sites.
  • Ensure accurate completion of daily driver checklist, forklift inspection logs, driver log books.
  • Maintain safe, clean, organized, functional storage centers and staging areas.
  • Ensure equipment repairs are performed safely and promptly to achieve PODS Out of Service targets.
  • Perform driver functions when necessary.
Regulatory & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with all DOT requirements including Hours of Service regulations and licensing.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and state/local facility compliance ordinances.
  • Adhere to local zoning codes and permit requirements; manage relationship with municipalities.
  • Ensure deliveries meet local regulatory requirements and obtain permits or authorization as required.
  • Participate in quarterly self‑audits and identify improvement areas.
  • Adhere to internal company policies (incident reports, drug screening, HR safety and compliance).
Financial Management
  • Manage day‑to‑day operation focused on efficiency.
  • Manage all petty cash per PODS Petty Cash policy.
  • Ensure refueling equipment is performed in a compliant, cost‑effective manner.
  • Perform monthly parts inventory reconciliation.
Other Duties
  • Flexibility to travel frequently to storage centers within territory.
  • May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
Management & Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Report to Territory Manager.
  • Directly manage other employees (hiring/termination, pay decisions, performance); supervise Storage Center, Equipment Maintenance, and Delivery Driver staff.
  • Previous union management experience required.
Job Qualifications
  • High School diploma required; college degree preferred or minimum 1 year prior management experience.
  • Ability to obtain CDL Class B or higher license preferred.
  • Maintain valid driver license in state of assignment.
  • Obtain PODS forklift certification.
  • Valid DOT medical card preferred.
  • Mechanical ability essential to identify equipment problems.
Physical Requirements
  • Sit at desk up to 8 hrs; type and use mouse.
  • Stand and walk up to 8 hrs; stoop, bend, lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Occasionally stand, walk, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Vision: close and peripheral vision; adjust focus.
  • Reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.
  • Hear and verbally communicate using a telephone handset.
