Private Sector Housing Officer

I am working with a Devon‑based client is currently recruiting for an experienced Private Sector Housing Officer to assist with high‑quality investigative and enforcement activity across the private rented sector. The post will focus on responding to tenant complaints, checking landlord compliance with relevant housing legislation, and providing guidance to tenants and wider stakeholders on their rights and options.

The role will involve undertaking property inspections and HHSRS assessments, identifying and assessing hazards, and taking proportionate enforcement action where necessary. This will include work relating to HMOs, empty properties, and disrepair, ensuring accommodation meets all statutory and safety standards.

Applicants must hold a recognised HHSRS qualification and have previous experience working within a local authority housing team. This is a 37‑hour per week contract with hybrid working (three days on site and two days working from home). A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential.
