About the DepartmentOur Infusion Clinic provides a variety of treatments to both Oncology and Non‑Oncology patients. For our Oncology patients, these treatments include chemotherapy, immunotherapy, IV hydration, blood products, injections, iron, phlebotomies, bone marrow biopsies, and other infusion therapies related to supportive care. These treatments are provided to both our Hematology‑Oncology Patients and our Gynecology Oncology Patients, many of whom may be on a clinical research trial or receiving combined modality treatment with radiation therapy.
We also support many other specialties such as rheumatology, neurology, OB, Huron gastro, primary care providers, and the specialized care required for these patients.
Our Infusion Clinic is supported by our infusions nurses, medical assistants, infusion schedulers, nurse coordinator, education coordinator, and infusion manager. Our nurses receive their chemotherapy and immunotherapy certification through ONS (Oncology Nursing Society) and we provide training and education for both novice and experienced nurses. We also provide yearly recertification for our chemotherapy‑certified nurses.
We utilize EPIC as our EMR.
Hours of OperationAnn Arbor:
Open Monday through Friday 8 am – 6:30 pm. Canton:
Open Monday through Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm. Brighton:
Open Monday through Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.
Our Infusion Clinics are currently closed on weekends and holidays.
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
- All new hires must have a BSN degree or must agree in writing to obtain their BSN within five (5) years from date of hire or transfer to an RN role.
- Current Michigan Nursing License.
- BLS certification.
- All our infusion nurses are required to obtain their chemotherapy certification and are strongly encouraged to obtain their OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse).
Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of nursing theory, practice, and age‑specific needs. Interpersonal skills necessary to initiate and maintain collegial relationships with coworkers and therapeutic relationships with patients and families. Critical thinking skills necessary to perform the principal duties and responsibilities of the job description. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when planning and performing professional nursing care.
Responsibilities- View patients holistically; consider physical, psychosocial, emotional, age‑specific, cultural, and spiritual factors. Demonstrate appropriate assessment skills for identified patient populations.
- Demonstrate critical thinking skills by gathering and analyzing patient information, then responding to a patient situation.
- Develop, implement, evaluate, and revise an individualized plan of care using evidence‑based interventions and standards of care. Identify needs and begin to plan for care across the continuum, considering patient and family preferences.
- Identify patient and family education needs. Develop and implement teaching plans based on evidence‑based practice, seeking additional resources when necessary. Utilize teach‑back methodology to assure patient and family are learning effectively. Identify necessary resources to assure readiness for discharge and begin to develop a plan in collaboration with other disciplines.
- Create an environment that promotes a positive patient experience.
- Communicate both verbal and written information (including documentation in the EMR) that is accurate, timely, concise, and thorough. Effectively communicate patient status, priority goals, and interventions to colleagues and other disciplines during consultation, rounds, and handoffs.
- Maintain good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approach conflict in a constructive manner. Help to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution.
