Overview

What Success Looks Like In This Job

Under general supervision, employee patrols parks, trails, and open space properties providing for visitor safety and resource protection, education and outreach, and ensure compliance with Parks rules and regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Perform foot, bicycle, and vehicle patrols to enforce Rules and regulations in parks, trails and open space properties of unincorporated Adams County and cooperating municipal jurisdictions per IGA or MOU terms and conditions.
  • Prioritize visitor safety and provide public education in areas of responsibility.
  • Enforce Parks Rules and Regulations by contacting violators, issuing verbal or written warnings, and citations as warranted.
  • Conduct investigations upon observation or reports of unlawful or unusual occurrences; resolve visitor complaints, monitor closures, address dumping or encroachment, patrol agricultural land, and interact with vulnerable populations as needed.
  • Prepare and maintain records and reports; take written statements and record relevant information as necessary.
  • Collect evidence as warranted and document evidence per policy to maintain proper chain of custody.
  • Provide testimony in court regarding investigations and or citations when required.
  • Provide information and directions to visitors.
  • Manage camping at Riverdale Regional Park by permit and enforce rules for campers.
  • Manage and enforce recreational activities at bodies of water within areas of responsibility, including boating and fishing; enforce prohibited activities and be prepared for water rescues including swift water rescues.
  • Respond to and provide aid as a First Responder during emergencies or crises within jurisdiction.
  • Perform rescue operations as trained, including medical emergencies, search and rescue, surface ice rescue, boating water rescue, wildfires, floods, and other natural disasters.
  • Serve as a specialist contributing parks law enforcement expertise to department plans, projects, committees, policy development and meetings.
  • Perform basic maintenance operations including trash removal, snow removal, restroom cleaning, and fence and sign maintenance or installation as needed.
  • Develop and coordinate strategies for rule compliance and education in areas of responsibility.
  • Coordinate with other departments as assigned regarding operational efficiencies, including the Sheriff’s Office, District Attorney’s Office, and ADCOM.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications for Success
  • Knowledge of safety hazards and necessary safety precautions to establish a safe environment for self and others.
  • Skill in applying guidelines or recommending new approaches to the development and modification of work plans and procedures.
  • Ability to learn how to and use pepper spray, baton, and other defensive equipment.
  • Ability to learn and maintain CPR and first aid techniques sufficient to perform lifesaving measures.
  • Computer skills to operate County-supported software, including MS Office Suite, JD Edwards, E-Docs and other software.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish, maintain, and foster positive working relationships, including with vulnerable populations.
  • Ability to remain motivated, dynamic, and engaged in problem solving throughout the day.
  • Ability to learn, interpret, and apply state and local policies, procedures, laws, and regulations.
  • Ability to learn court procedure, including citation issuance and court documents.
  • Ability to enforce regulations with firmness and tact while maintaining excellent customer service.
  • Take proper safety precautions, anticipate unsafe circumstances, and use all required safety equipment.
  • Possess a proactive, self-motivated work ethic with integrity and trust.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience:

    A minimum of two years of parks law enforcement experience is required. A combination of experience in parks maintenance, natural resource management, code enforcement, or traditional law enforcement, structural fire, wildland fire, medical, or animal control may be considered.
