Electrical Design Engineer

Location: Hove (office-based, with occasional UK/international travel)

Employment: Permanent, full time

An established engineering manufacturer is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to support the design and development of low and medium voltage switch gear used in safety-critical applications. This Electrical Design Engineer role sits within a structured engineering team and offers exposure across full product lifecycle activities, from concept through to production support.

As an Electrical Design Engineer
, you will contribute to new product development, ensure designs are robust and manufacturable, and provide technical support to production and customers. The position suits an individual with strong mechanical fundamentals and practical CAD experience in regulated engineering environments.

• Design and development of low and medium voltage switch gear assemblies
• Support new product introduction from feasibility through to production
• Apply robust design tools such as DFMEA and functional analysis
• Produce and maintain accurate engineering documentation
• Support manufacturing, investigations, and customer site activities

• HNC in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience)
• Strong mechanical engineering knowledge
• 2D/3D CAD experience (Solid Works preferred)
• Understanding of risk management and material properties
• Switchgear or rail electrification products
• Mechanical interlocks and drive systems
• Thermoplastic / thermoset moulding
• Awareness of IEC / BS EN standards (e.g. IEC 62271-1)
