Overview
Based at Cannington College, the Student Experience & Safeguarding Officer plays a pivotal role in coordinating wellbeing support for students across the College. The college Residential provision provides accommodation for students aged 16+ studying across any of our College Group. The College’s primary student accommodation is based at the Cannington campus and consists of 211 beds.
Responsibilities- Work closely with the Counselling & Safeguarding Team Leader, triaging referrals, ensuring timely and appropriate support is provided, and maintaining a calm and effective approach under pressure.
- Support students—particularly those from vulnerable groups and those within our residential provision—by addressing a wide range of issues that may affect their learning and overall college experience. Co-ordinate and monitor the wellbeing of the College’s residential learners with a specific focus on the under 18 provision. A key element of the role will be to provide safeguarding support to all students in residential accommodation and work with students to mentor, self-assess, agree targets and review progress.
- Provide one-to-one and group guidance and mentoring, signposting students to internal services or external agencies, helping to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment across the college group.
- Working pattern for this post will be 4 working days, followed by 4 rest days. The shift will begin at 09:00 and finish at 20:40 with one hour lunch.
- The Student Experience Team at Cannington interviews and allocates residential places to students. They provide 24/7 support for residential students with issues ranging from accommodation queries to student wellbeing, entertainment and enrichment. The team’s primary responsibility is the safeguarding of residential students.
- The residential provision was inspected by Ofsted under the Further Education Residential Accommodation:
National Minimum Standards in October 2022 and awarded Outstanding overall. - This role will also focus on engaging residential learners in a range of clubs as well as compulsory residential sessions, in order to develop and enhance learners’ personal, social and employability skills.
