The Swim Instructor position provides swim lessons and builds relationships with members and program participants through effective and positive customer service while maintaining a safe instructional environment. The role is on-site, not remote.

The Swim Instructor serves members through swim lessons, building relationships with members and participants through professional, courteous service and by providing a safe instructional environment.
This job is fully on-site, not remote.
Essential Duties- Private Swim Instruction:
Maintains a safe, instructional, and supportive environment. - Teaches students the principles of correct stroke, water safety, and swimming endurance.
- Teaches group classes to preschool and school-aged children.
- Develops appropriate introductions to a variety of water sports/activities.
- Engages all members/participants in a professional and courteous manner.
- Greet/say hello and goodbye to all participants in the aquatics area and learn members names and call them by their names.
- Listen and be accessible to all members for questions and comments.
- Follow-up as needed.
- Engages members on new classes, changes, etc.
- Maintains proper functioning/cleanliness and reports malfunctions of the water area/equipment to supervisor.
- Redirects members on cell phones to the front lobby.
- Adheres to and incorporates the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility and educates members about the YMCA mission and goals.
- Complies with all Somerset Hills YMCA Policies and Procedures.
- Attends trainings, seminars and meetings as required.
- Arrives to work five (5) minutes before shift starts.
- Wears appropriate and professional uniform/attire.
- All other duties as assigned.
- YSL and/or WSI certification (obtain upon hire)
- CPR/AED and First Aid (obtain upon hire)
- Current Bloodborne Pathogens certification (obtain upon hire)
- SH YMCA Child Abuse Prevention Training within 30 days of hire
- SH YMCA New Staff Orientation Training within 90 days of hire
