Position Summary

The opportunity creates a safe and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors by operating boilers and related equipment; reading meters and gauges at specified intervals; opening and closing valves, adjusting controls, checking and monitoring operating systems for faults and maintenance needs; cleaning, maintaining, and lubricating power plant and auxiliary equipment; recording data and maintaining logs on temperatures, fuel consumption, and жұмыс metrics;

and performing related work as required.

Successful candidates will collaborate with colleagues to support the mission of the Department of Facilities Management in serving the diverse campus community. In this role you will help create and maintain a physical environment that enhances the entire Bridgewater State University community.

Tour of Duty:
Thursday – Monday 6:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
(Tuesday and Wednesday as days off)

Essential position. Initial assignment only, subject to change according to institutional needs.

This is a full‑time, 12‑month AFSCME unit position and is subject to the terms of that union agreement. Applicants must demonstrate employment eligibility in accordance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.

Responsibilities

Operate boilers and related auxiliary equipment that requires a 2nd Class Fireman’s license to fire high‑pressure boilers, regulating controls, opening and closing valves, etc., in accordance with standard operating instruction, procedures, and safety regulations.

Read meters and gauges at specified intervals to ensure proper temperature, pressure, fuel levels, and water levels.

Open and close valves and adjust controls to regulate fuel flow, airflow, water level, steam pressure, etc., to ensure safe and efficient operation.

Check and monitor operating systems to detect faulty equipment, determine necessary repairs, notify appropriate personnel, and decide when to shut system down.

Clean, maintain, and/or lubricate power plant and related auxiliary equipment such as burners, pumps, filters, etc., to ensure safe and efficient operation.

Perform minor repairs and/or adjust power plant and related auxiliary equipment using hand tools to ensure proper and safe operation.

Record data and maintain logs on temperatures, fuel consumption, meter and gauge readings, etc.

Perform related duties such as maintaining cleanliness of work areas; verifying receipt of fuel; directing fuel deliverers to proper storage areas; and attending required training programs. Instruct students in the use of electronic equipment, safety measures, etc.

Check and monitor air conditioning and/or ventilation systems to ensure safe and efficient operation.
