Compensation

The base salary range represents a good faith salary range for this position. The expected pay range for this position is between $18.00 per hour and $28.00 per hour. If you are hired at American Water your compensation will be determined based on factors such as market, geography, skills, candidate's program year, discipline, and degree. Primary Role

Gain first hand experience in how water utilities support communities and ensure sustainability as an Environmental Compliance Intern. Collaborate with professionals to assist with environmental management and water quality activities for assigned facilities, ensuring compliance with all water quality and environmental regulations.

Key Accountabilities
  • Implement and manage monitoring and reporting programs to ensure compliance with federal and state water quality/environmental regulations and company standards, specifically for the Lead Program.
  • Analyze data and develop reports
  • Assist operations staff in water and wastewater facilities with routine production activities, including data evaluation.
  • Prepare permit applications
  • Support RCRA program including tracking of waste disposal
  • Assist with publishing internal Environmental Newsletter
Knowledge/Skills
  • Detail-Oriented:
    Conduct thorough analyses and evaluations, and implement timely decisions and recommendations.
  • Independent Worker:
    Manage time across multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Collaborative:
    Seek input and coordinate with staff.
  • Communication:
    Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Technical Proficiency:
    Good working knowledge of computer programs, databases, and software.

    Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
Experience/Education
  • Currently enrolled in an Environmental Engineering or Environmental Science undergraduate degree program from an accredited school.
Other
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
