Overview

University Correctional Health Care (UCHC), part of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, provides comprehensive health services to individuals involved in the criminal justice system.

Rutgers University Correctional Health Care seeks a Full‑Time Staff Nurse for Southwoods State Prison in Bridgeton, NJ. The Staff Nurse utilizes the nursing process to meet a variety of health‑care needs, with ambulatory care as a primary focus for inmates in the New Jersey Department of Corrections.

• Provides direct and indirect nursing care for resident‑patients, including adolescents (13‑17 years) and adults (18‑64 years).
• Performs assessments in settings such as intake area, sick‑call unit, emergency housing, chronic care clinics, and infirmary.
• Works with health‑care professionals and security officers in a correctional environment.
• Identifies inmate‑centered goals and nursing objectives and implements prescribed interventions.
• Plans nursing care based on assessments, makes referrals, and initiates appropriate care per institutional policies.
• As team leader or charge nurse, delegates duties to team members and guides their care provision.

Minimum Education and Experience

• Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.

Certifications / Licenses

• License to practice in the State of New Jersey.
• CPR Certification.
• Valid driver’s license; must possess own vehicle or alternative transportation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) or equivalent.

Must be able to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes, lift and carry an emergency treatment bag up to 45 pounds, and assist in lifting and rotating patients up to 50 pounds.

• Minimum: $37,230
• Mid Range: $46,540
• Maximum: $54,050
