The RoleThis role involves providing specialist speech and language therapy assessment, diagnosis, and intervention for children and young people up to 18 years old within a community setting. The post holder will manage their own caseload, deliver pre-referral (Stage
1) activity, and contribute to indirect care such as training and multi-agency working. The service supports children with a wide range of speech, language, communication, and swallowing needs, working closely with families, education, and partner services to deliver high-quality, consistent care across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
- Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.
- Part-time contract (29.6 hours)
- Monday to Thursday
- Assess, diagnose and provide therapy as appropriate to children and young people with speech, language and communication difficulties and/ or eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties including the planning and delivery of specialised therapy programmes tailored to suit the needs of individuals including complex cases.
- Manage and prioritise own specialist caseload as an autonomous practitioner, analysing client’s risk and need.
- To effectively supervise all work delegated to Clinical Support workers.
- Engage effectively in clinical supervision, peer review, operational management and Care Aims arrangements and processes that are critical to the effective delivery of SLT services.
- Where appropriate and required, review referrals in conjunction with SLT Team Leader/SLT Manager within the locality team, making decisions regarding referral of cases to other agencies as appropriate, e.g., CAMHS, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Educational Psychology for further investigation or diagnosis.
- Develop and deliver and evaluate in-service training to SLT staff, Health Professionals and students from other professional groups to enhance patient care, and to staff of outside agencies, e.g., Education Departments, targeted appropriately to the needs of the participants.
- To contribute to the departmental Stage 1 / Pre-referral programme.

- BSc Degree in Speech and Language Pathology and Therapeutics
- RCSLT Certificate to Practise
- HCPC Registration
- Full RCSLT Membership
- RCSLT competencies achieved
- Desirable
- Eating and Drinking qualification
- Experience – Essential
- Experience working with a range of children within Speech and Language Therapy
- Experience in assessment, analysis, and care planning
- Knowledge of the Care Aims philosophy
- Understanding of the principles of Realistic Medicine in SLT practice
- Experience – Desirable
- Experience of dysphagia assessment
- Experience supporting other SLTs with case management
- Experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Familiarity with Autism Diagnostic procedures
