Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg-Oncology night shift assignment requiring a WV or compact RN license and at least 2 years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities- Position is in an acute care hospital setting on the 36-bed Med Surg/Oncology unit
- Patient population includes general med/surg, post-op (lap chole, lap appy), and oncology patients, including those with complications and those requiring neutropenic precautions
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:5-6
- Frequent use and management of Pleur
X chest tubes and Heparin drips - Unit is equipped with Phillips telemetry monitors; RNs must read and interpret their own strips
- 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend required
- Floats occur to any Med Surg/Tele units
- Uses Epic EMR
- Unit follows a 50-mile radius rule for eligibility
- Responsibilities include managing a diverse Med/Surg-Oncology caseload with both medical and surgical patients, administering Heparin drips, and providing care for oncology patients with potential complications
- RNs are required to interpret their own telemetry strips; monitor tech support is available hospital-wide
- Night shift charge nurse may take a patient assignment as needed; three CNAs are assigned to each shift
- Integration with perm staff for the holiday scheduling rotation
- All staff must wear royal blue scrubs and adhere to the unit dress code (no false nails)
- Candidates will be required to pass EKG testing
- No local travelers accepted within a 50-mile radius
- Returning travelers must have a 2-year separation if previously employed by WVU Medicine
- Travelers are not permitted to work for longer than one year cumulatively without a 2-year break
- First-time travelers will be considered
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- Current American Heart Association BLS certification required
- Minimum of 2 years recent RN experience on Med/Surg or Oncology units
- Experience with telemetry and interpreting cardiac monitor strips required
- Familiarity with Epic EMR preferred
- Experience with Pleur
X chest tubes is a plus - ONS/ONCC (Chemotherapy Biotherapy) certification is preferred but not required
- No previous permanent employment at any WVU Medicine location within the last 2 years
- Must live outside a 50-mile radius from the facility
