Security Guard

The Thomas Merton Family Center (TMFC), a program of Catholic Charities of Fairfield County, located in Bridgeport, CT, is seeking a professional and dependable Security Guard (unarmed) to maintain a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment for guests, staff, and volunteers. This full‑time (35 hours/week), benefits‑eligible position focuses on prevention, de‑escalation, and guest accountability in a high‑volume community service setting. The center is open during regular business hours, and the work schedule will be aligned with program operating hours.

• Safety & Building Oversight:
  • Monitor entrances, common areas, dining spaces, and surrounding grounds.
  • Ensure all guests are properly checked in and out using the tracking system.
  • Identify unsafe behavior and take preventative, non‑confrontational action.
  • Use de‑escalation techniques to manage conflicts calmly.
  • Maintain a visible and professional security presence.
• Documentation & Communication:
  • Complete incident reports and logs accurately and promptly.
  • Communicate safety concerns to the Operations Manager and staff.
  • Utilize basic technology systems for tracking and reporting.
• Guest Interaction:
  • Work respectfully with a diverse population, including individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Support staff during high‑traffic meal service and programming hours.
  • Uphold TMFC policies with professionalism and courtesy.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Strong observational skills and sound judgment.
• Ability to remain calm in high‑stress situations.
• Reliable and punctual attendance.

• Experience in security, public safety, military, or law enforcement.
• De‑escalation or conflict resolution training.
• Incident reporting/documentation experience.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish).
