Reed Recruitment are currently working in partnership with an environmental services business who are looking for a skilled and motivated Fitter/Mechanic Technician to join our growing fleet operation.
>This is a hands-on, responsible role where you’ll take ownership of vehicle maintenance, diagnostics, and workshop organisation. You’ll be working on a mixed fleet of vans and light drainage vehicles, ensuring they remain safe, compliant, and ready for operational use. If you’re an experienced mechanic who enjoys problem-solving, autonomy, and working in a well-run workshop, this could be an excellent next step.
Van Mechanic Salary Benefits and Hours of Work
- £16.75 – £21.00 per hour
- 7.00am - 16.30pm - 45 Hours per week
- 20 Day Holiday + 8 Bank Holidays

- Carrying out diagnosis, repairs, and preventative maintenance (PMIs) on light commercial and drainage vehicles
- Using diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical faults
- Ensuring all vehicles meet roadworthiness and compliance standards
- Managing MOT bookings and supporting compliance schedules
- Tracking workshop time and maintenance records accurately
- Maintaining workshop standards, including cleanliness, security, stock control, and COSHH compliance
- Providing technical support and guidance to operational teams when vehicle or equipment issues arise
- Taking pride in the smooth day-to-day operation of the workshop
- Extensive experience as a Mechanic or HGV / Vehicle Fitter
- Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills
- Confident using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment
- Solid mechanical knowledge of engines, hydraulics, and vehicle systems
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
- Organised, reliable, and safety-conscious
- Comfortable working independently and taking responsibility
- Full UK driving licence required
