Overview
The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate and further develop sound clinical dermatology skills. The post holder will support key areas of dermatology including undertaking nurse led clinics and supporting doctors by providing specialist treatment following diagnosis of dermatological conditions. The role involves undertaking investigations, administering medication, and providing educational support to patients, while working alongside medical and nursing staff.
Both medical and surgical dermatology services are provided within the department and supported by the nursing team. The post holder will need to demonstrate clinical decision‑making skills, be able to work collaboratively as part of the multidisciplinary team and manage their own workload. The team is friendly and team oriented with good facilities and strong working relationships between dermatology nursing, medical and administrative staff.
Working hours are 37.5 per week, Monday to Friday, with no bank holidays or night duty; hours may be reviewed depending on service needs, including compacted hours.
- Undertake nurse led clinics and support doctors by providing specialist treatment following diagnosis of dermatological conditions.
- Undertake investigations, administer medications, and provide educational support to patients.
- Work collaboratively with medical, nursing and administrative teams within a multidisciplinary setting.
- Manage own workload and contribute to a high standard of dermatology care.
- Support both medical and surgical dermatology services within the department.
- Registered Nurse (Part 1, 8, 12 or 15 of the Nursing and Midwifery Council Register depending on area of practice) or National Certification in area of Practice.
- UK recognised Degree in Nursing relevant to post.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of an NMC revalidation or equivalent.
- Desirable criteria:
Post-graduate qualification related to an area of practice; articulate and knowledgeable of skills needed to deliver a high standard of care; able to document observations, results, decisions and actions effectively in patient notes and communicate these to the multi-disciplinary team; able to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, carers and all members of the team; able to proactively contribute to education of learners and less experienced staff;
able to supervise non-registered staff; able to escalate concerns to reduce risk and promote patient safety; previous experience of managing clinical incidents and complaints; understanding of professional and current issues related to area of practice; able to identify own learning needs and keep up to date with practice developments; able to contribute to development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies/guidelines;
demonstrates ability to question and improve nursing practice; capable of delivering high standards of care and driving improvement; self-aware and receptive to constructive criticism; positive, enthusiastic, resilient under pressure; professional appearance appropriate to Trust policy; capable of undertaking procedures involving physical skills relevant to practice areas. - Desirable criteria:
