HGV Mechanic

Reed Recruitment are currently working in partnership with a well-established environmental services business who are looking for a skilled and motivated HGV Fitter / Mechanic Technician to join their growing fleet operation.

This is a hands-on, responsible role where you’ll take ownership of HGV maintenance, diagnostics, and workshop organisation. You will be working on a mixed fleet of HGVs and light drainage vehicles
, ensuring all assets remain safe, compliant, and fully operational.

This opportunity is ideal for an experienced HGV mechanic who enjoys technical challenges, autonomy, and working within a professional, well-run workshop environment.

• £16.75 – £21.00 per hour (dependent on experience)
• Working hours: 7:00am – 4:30pm
• 45 hours per week

• Carrying out diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance (PMIs) on HGVs and light drainage vehicles
• Diagnosing and rectifying mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults using diagnostic equipment
• Ensuring all vehicles meet roadworthiness, DVSA, and compliance standards
• Managing MOT bookings and supporting statutory inspection schedules
• Accurately tracking workshop time, inspections, and maintenance records
• Maintaining high workshop standards, including cleanliness, security, stock control, and COSHH compliance
• Providing technical support and guidance to operational teams dealing with vehicle or equipment issues
• Taking pride in the smooth day-to-day running of the workshop

• Extensive experience as an HGV Fitter / Mechanic
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding capability
• Confident using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic systems
• Solid mechanical knowledge of HGV engines, hydraulics, braking systems, and vehicle assemblies
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
• Highly organised, reliable, and safety-focused
• Comfortable working independently and taking responsibility
• Full UK driving licence required (HGV licence advantageous but not essential)
