An opportunity has arisen for a Highways Development Inspector to join the Highways Development team within the Strategic Transportation service at Bridgend County Borough Council. This role sits at the frontline of development delivery, helping to ensure that new highway infrastructure is constructed to the correct standard and is suitable for eventual adoption as highway maintainable at public expense.

• Inspect highway construction works on new private developments, including new roads, footways, drainage and associated infrastructure, as well as alterations to the existing highway network.
• Undertake regular site visits, check compliance with approved drawings and agreements, and work closely with developers, contractors and colleagues to resolve issues in a practical and proportionate way.
• Where required, and subject to workload, assist the Highways Development Control section with site visits to support the assessment of development proposals.
• Feed back site issues, progress and risks both verbally and in writing, while working with colleagues and on your own initiative.

• Experience in highway construction or maintenance; comfortable being site-based and working with people to deliver safe, durable and fit-for-purpose infrastructure.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills, with a constructive approach to problem-solving.
• Full driving licence and access to a motor vehicle for official duties, as travel to development sites across the county borough and to the main council Civic offices in Bridgend is required.

You will be part of a supportive and experienced highways development team, reporting into the Senior Highways Development Officer in the first instance. While the role requires a high degree of independence and confidence working on your own initiative, you will be supported by colleagues and will feed back site issues, progress and risks both verbally and in writing.
