Summary: The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) interviews and initiates care for patients who visit our clinics and plays key roles in the care provided, up to and including specimen collection and delivery of test results.

• Interviews patients to collect and document history of present illness (HPI), medication reconciliation, history of allergies.
• Performs vital sign measurement and any standard testing per clinic procedures.
• Coordinates and performs follow-on procedures as directed by a provider, including onsite testing, specimen collection, and wound care.
• Assists with provider-performed procedures such as suture application or splints.
• Communicates with patients in a timely and effective manner regarding their care. Notifies patients of test and lab results. Explains practice policies and procedures using cultural competency and active listening.
• Documents care into the electronic medical recordkeeping system (EMR). Ensures completion of necessary documentation and forms.
• Collects and prepares testing specimens as needed for transport to offsite laboratory.
• Maintains and monitors consumable supplies and medications for effective ongoing clinical operations.
• Promotes a safe, clean and secure clinical environment, including the application of standard precautions and infection control principles.

Required:

• Must hold a current Medical Assistant certification. Accepted forms of the credential are:
• Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) – National Health career Association (NHA)
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
• Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Medical Technologists (AMT)
• Medical Assistant (NCMA) – National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
• Must hold current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Position requires the ability to lift supplies and equipment regularly and navigate the clinical area actively throughout work

Preferred:

• Prior work experience in a clinical setting.
