Summary:
GS-07 The primary purpose of the position is to perform law enforcement work to maintain law and order, preserve the peace, protect life and civil rights, detect and investigate crimes, arrest or apprehend violators, and perform patrols within the assigned jurisdictions. Duties: GS-05/06/07
* Performs the full spectrum of police officer duties within the assigned jurisdictions:
Incumbent has full powers of apprehension and detention, which entails carrying a firearm, mirandizing suspects, preserving evidence and testifying in court as it pertains to enforcing regulations within assigned jurisdiction.
* Conducts Investigations/Surveillance:
Conducts investigations of crimes and complaints covering a wide range of subjects and allegations that are not within the scope of Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI) or the scope of the higher level detectives assigned to the Squadron.
* Performs as Base Defense Operations Center (BDOC) Controller:
Serves as the primary command and control (C2) function for all Integrated Defense forces.
* Performs emergency response and incident command and control:
Acts as the initial on scene commander for significant and catastrophic events (e.g. active shooter, terrorist attacks, and natural disasters) and initiates Air Force Incident Management System (AFIMS). Requirements Conditions of employment

* This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
* Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
* Incumbent must qualify and remain qualified in the use of required weapons, as the incumbent will be required to use firearms in performing duties.
* Lautenberg Amendment:
Position requires access to firearms. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence may not occupy this position in accordance with the Gun Control Act of 1968,
* as amended 30 Sep 96. Employee must sign DD Form 2760, Qualification to Possess Firearms or Ammunition.
* Must pass an initial pre-employment medical examination, periodic medical examinations, required initial and annual physical fitness/physical agility tests to include running,
* meet established hearing standards and discern colors, contrast, and depth. The incumbent must immediately report to his supervisor any significant medical threshold shifts in health status and/or medication requirements.
* Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
* The incumbent must wear a DAF Police Officer uniform as identified in the DAF Police DAFI and required to meet dress and appearance standards when supporting non DoD agencies IAW the DAFI.
* Must work an uncommon tour of duty, to include nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, rotating shifts, and recall.
* Must wear approved protective clothing such as body armor/ballistic plates, helmets, personal protective equipment, coats, boots, traffic vests and/or chemical protective equipment, (e.g. respirator mask).
* Incumbent must possess a valid driver's license and be able to operate all security forces vehicles and installed equipment.
* Subject to duty position evaluation on a pass/fail standard in accordance with AFI 36-2646, Security Forces Training and Standardization Evaluation Programs.
* Must pass formal law enforcement training school as determined by AF/A4S and obtain DoD Peace Officer Standardization and Training Certification.
