A Brief Summary of This Position:
While working under the direct supervision of the Production Supervisor and Lead Person in the Large Pole Department, assembles products of the unit by tack welding various small parts to pole shafts using the GMAW, FCAW, SAW welding processes. This is done within prescribed codes, according to prescribed procedures, specifications, and drawings. Weld out products to meet code requirements including ultrasonic testing.
Shift: 2nd shift (Evenings) Monday‑Friday 3PM‑11PM. Starting hourly pay rate: $25.19 + $1.00 shift differential. Opportunity for step pay increases at 90 days, 1 year & 2 years.
- Use GMAW to tack weld small components to round or square shafts to make a pole assembly, and SAW for structural welds.
- Manually position shaft on stationary turner for assembly.
- Use jib crane to lift components such as the base plate and arm mounting simplex into position.
- Read and interpret drawings to determine parts needed for assembly.
- Locate and gather parts from the staging area.
- Cut steel with plasma torch and use jigs to cut holes for hand hole rims, arm mounts, couplings, and other parts.
- Measure distances and angles with measuring tape, levels, squares, and angle finders; perform basic arithmetic with feet, inches, fractions, and decimals.
- Work in confined areas along the pole assembly line to accurately assemble components.
- Use motorized grinders, buffers, stone grinders, and drills to aid assembly.
- Maintain required professional competencies, certifications, and licenses.
- Report training needs and consult management for untrained or unsafe work.
- Maintain a clean and organized workplace with LEAN practices.
- Perform general maintenance of equipment and achieve acceptable first‑pass yield based on shop standards.
Skills and Abilities
):
- Read and write English.
- Perform simple mathematics and use common manufacturing mathematics.
- Instruction received on reading and using blueprints.
- Graduation from an acceptable Technical Training Program focused on welding.
- Pass FCAW, GMAW, and SAW weld tests and maintain certification.
- Operate overhead cranes; prior experience preferred.
- Lift up to 50 pounds.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 5 years previous experience in an assembly environment.
- 5 years previous experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
- 5 years previous experience operating hand and/or power tools.
- Accurately and honestly check own work for quality assurance.
- A person of passion and integrity with a drive to excel and deliver exceptional results.
Standing — 80%, bending over — 15%, average weight handled — 25 lbs., grinding and buffer use — 10% of time. Exposure to heat, weld fumes, noise (requires hearing protection), hot or cold air conditions. Sparks from grinding and welding require proper PPE.
