Duties
* You will pilot vessels in the waters of Puget Sound and adjacent water, from Port Angeles to Alki Point, including the ports of Port Townsend (Indian Island), Everett, Bremerton, Seattle, and the Hood Canal (Sub-base Bangor facilities).
* You will explain and point out on charts the route to be followed, the number and placement of tugs to be used etc.
* You will practice the principles of navigation and have complete familiarity with the Rules of the Road.
* You will provide safe pilotage services to vessels transiting the Straits of Juan de Fuca and Puget Sound to include commercial piers utilized by naval vessels.
* You will be responsible for determining whether movements can be made safely under adverse weather conditions, such as high winds, heavy rain, or snowfall.
* You will travel to port nearest to ship's scheduled route when entering Puget Sound and board launch or tug for transportation out to the ship. Requirements Conditions of employment

* You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
* Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
* You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
* You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
* You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card to make official government purchases for goods and services.
* This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time. Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible.
The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO PERFORM COMMON TASKS INCLUDING:
- 1) Proceeds to the bridge and discusses route, speed, port conditions, and dock/pier conditions with ship's Captain;
2) Boards a vessel in port and proceeds to the bridge, discussing with the ship's Commanding Officer/Master pertinent information such as forward and aft drafts, whether the ship is single or multi-propellered, engine speed used for maneuvering at one-third, two-thirds, and full speeds, and any moving constraints or vessel peculiarities;
3) Piloting, mooring, anchor handling, dry docking and undocking ships. . I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress…
