Kitsap Mental Health Services (KMHS) is seeking a Facilities Mechanic to support the maintenance and repair of commercial building systems across KMHS properties. In this role, you will work independently to maintain heating, cooling, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems while responding to facility needs across multiple worksites. This position plays an important role in keeping our buildings safe, functional, and ready to support clinical and administrative services.

- Work independently and perform all tasks and repairs in an efficient and organized manner with minimum supervision, completing assignments on time and within budget.
- Perform routine, preventive maintenance on heating and cooling systems and equipment on a scheduled basis.
- Make entries on work orders and submit purchase orders for materials to be ordered.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, repair or replace appliances.
- Replace and test minor electrical equipment and circuits.
- Maintain some Life Safety equipment and systems. Document work on these systems and can retrieve this information upon request.
- Must be able to work weekends and evenings as necessary. May need to work emergency weather events.
- Must comply with all applicable health and safety regulations, policies, and established work practices.
- Service, maintenance, and water treatment of all cooling towers.
- Maintain and repair all piping associated with heating and cooling.
- Maintain, repair, and calibrate automatic temperature controls and digital controls, including the building automated system (BAS).
- Oversee the recovery and recycling of refrigerant.
- Respond to occupant concerns on heating, cooling, and ventilation issues.
- Participate in an on‑call rotation to provide after‑hours support and respond to urgent issues as needed.
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or GED
EXPERIENCE:
- Intermediate (minimum 3 years of job‑related experience)
- Maintenance and remodel of buildings, grounds and equipment.
- Three years of experience in HVAC, heat pump maintenance, refrigeration and general building maintenance in a commercial or institutional setting required.
- This role involves driving company vehicles across multiple worksites. Therefore, the incumbent must meet all agency driving requirements, including being at least 21 years old, having been licensed for a minimum of three years, successfully completing a motor vehicle history check, possessing and maintaining a current, valid driver’s license in the state of Washington, and having reliable, insured transportation.
LICENSES/CREDENTIALS: EPA Section 608 Technician Certification required.
Preferred QualificationsEDUCATION:
Vocational training in refrigeration and mechanical equipment.
EXPERIENCE:
Specialist (minimum 5 years of job‑related experience)
CERTIFICATION:
- EPA Section 608 Technician Certification (Universal).
- Washington State Class III Boiler Operating Engineer.
- General knowledge in all building trades, to include building, grounds and equipment maintenance, sufficient to perform routine maintenance and repair tasks.
- Knowledge of the use, maintenance and minor repair of the various tools and equipment used in building maintenance, remodel, and repair work.
- Basic knowledge of preventative maintenance techniques.
- Working knowledge of rough and finish carpentry techniques, commercial painting, window glazing, and framing.
