. This full‑time, hourly position is located in Bremerton, WA. A 11‑25% travel requirement applies. The security clearance required is the ability to obtain one, and the candidate must be a U.S. citizen. The base salary range is $50,000.00 – $54,080.00 per year.

Summary

Join our Elevator Support Unit (ESU)! The position will support contracted skilled trades work on Weapon Elevators and Aircraft Elevators and their systems on U.S. Navy ships. The selected candidate will perform a variety of skilled trades, maintenance and technical tasks on aircraft carrier elevators, cargo handling systems and associated equipment, including aircraft elevators, weapons elevators and vertical stores conveyors. Work includes daily physical labor in an industrial and shipboard environment.

Travel within and outside of the continental United States may be required. This is a full‑time position located in Bremerton, WA.

What You Will Do
  • Assist ESU by utilizing various welding techniques on aircraft carrier elevators, cargo‑handling systems, and related equipment such as aircraft elevators, weapons elevators, and vertical stores conveyors.
  • Engage in physical labor within an industrial and shipboard setting on a daily basis.
  • Create and utilize technical work documents, including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, ship check reports, and final task completion reports.
  • Use brazing and/or flame‑cutting equipment to weld or join metal components or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products.
  • Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
What You Must Have
  • High School education or trade school or equivalent, and 4 years of related experience.
  • Experience with SMAW (Stick) welding of Carbon Steel/HY100/HY80 and experience with GTAW (TIG) welding of Carbon Steel/Stainless Steel/Copper Nickel.
  • Experience brazing with Grade III Silver Solder.
  • Experience performing fit‑up of piping and structural components.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain base access, security clearance, and must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow detailed oral and written instructions, schematics or drawings, technical documents, and to conduct activities safely.
  • Must be able to calibrate and make minor repairs on tools/equipment.
  • Experience using hand tools (wrenches, hammers, grinders, cutting torches, etc.).
  • Experience using shop machinery (saws, drills, pedestal grinders, etc.).
  • Must be able to pass a respirator physical and a J‑1 eye test.
  • Must provide own hand tools as designated per trade specialty.
Bonus Points For
  • Production welder experience while in the Navy or working as a civilian production welder supporting Navy ship repair or new construction.
  • Completion of a formal course of vocational or Navy welding training and certification.
  • A current or active security clearance.
Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes (minimum 30 lbs). Able to work on and climb ladders, in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels.

May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
