Position: Wood Worker with Security Clearance
Duties Help
* Plans and constructs complex wooden boxes, crates, skids, and bracing structures with non-standard features.
* Develops, improvises, and modifies complex and critical construction plans, patterns, jigs, and sequences.
* Checks items of a difficult nature to be boxed or crated against shipping documents or invoice to ensure correct identification, quantity and condition.
* Use woodworking tools and equipment, measures, cuts out and manufactures complex shipping container requiring critical fitted blocking, bracing, cradles, yokes, collars, or other supports necessary to provide appropriate support and protection.
* Packs materials and equipment in standard non-standard boxes or crates using proper wrappings, liners, cradles, chocks, yokes collars, cushioning, or other protective devices.
* Prepares packing lists, completes shipping documents, and stencils or labels identifying shipping and handling instructions on shipping container. Requirements Help Conditions of employment

* This position and any future selections from this announcement may be used to fill various shifts located within DLA Distribution Puget Sound, WA.
* This is an obligated position and occupancy is subject to the return of former incumbent. If former incumbent fails to return to the position, occupancy may become permanent.
* Must be able to obtain and maintain licenses and/or certifications required by the installation, federal, state, and local laws.
* Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Material Handling Equipment (MHE) license.
* Must be able to obtain and maintain required hazardous materials handling certifications.
* Term Appointment may be converted to permanent (See Nest Steps section). Qualifications Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying.

Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Effort:
Often required to stand, stoop, bend, push, pull, lift, reach, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted and lifts and moves heavier items with the assistance of other workers with a weight limit up to 90 pounds and/or using lifting devices such as floor hoists or cranes.

Working Conditions:

Works in shop area of large warehouse which sometimes is uncomfortably warm, cold, cool, damp and drafty. Occasionally works outside in all types of weather conditions. Exposed to hazards, such as loud noise from tools and machinery; nose, eye and lung irritations from sawdust; possible cuts from sharp blades and tools; skin abrasions and splinters from handling unfinished wood; and possible injuries from flying wooden particles and fasteners.
