On-Call Behavioral Health Tech – Residential Programs

Hiring Range: $20.07–$24.58 per hour. Additional Pay:
Shift Differentials! (Up To An Additional $1.25/Hr)

Kitsap Mental Health Services (KMHS) is hiring On-Call Behavioral Health Technicians (BHTs) to support clients in our Subacute Recovery Services programs: the KMHS Residential Treatment Center and the Pacific Hope and Recovery Center. BHTs play a critical role in creating a safe, recovery-oriented environment by assisting clients with daily routines, providing emotional support, monitoring behaviors, and facilitating therapeutic activities. This is an ideal opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the behavioral health field, especially for those interested in pursuing a clinical career.

Primary

Responsibilities
  • Take appropriate measures to meet the client’s daily basic needs for health and safety, including but not limited to the following tasks:
  • Prepare and serve meals
  • Conduct safety checks of the units
  • Monitor clients according to the assigned levels of observation
  • Assist in maintaining a clean work environment
  • Assist in maintaining a sufficient inventory of food and non-food items
  • Complete all required electronic and paper charting, documentation, and data entry of clients as outlined in the appropriate KMHS guidelines, manuals, policies, and procedures.
  • Participate in clinical activities as directed by a supervisor, including but not limited to:
  • Facilitate approved group activities
  • Conduct ongoing observation and assessment of the client’s mental status during each shift
  • Record client nutritional intake, sleep, and vitals
  • Run treatment groups on shift
  • Take referrals appropriately
  • Follow specific behavioral protocols for clients as directed by a supervisor and
  • Complete all paperwork involved in providing direct client care, including but not limited to the following:
  • Paperwork relating to admission and discharge
  • Confidentiality
  • Client rights
  • Client inventories
  • Tracking sheets
  • Attend all mandatory training on time and as scheduled.
  • Keep current on all required documentation (i.e., food handlers permit, counselor licenses, etc.).
Minimum Qualifications
  • Entry level (no prior related work experience).
  • Valid Washington Food Handler card (can be obtained after hire).
  • Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration (can be obtained after hire).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experienced (minimum two years of job-related experience).
  • Relevant experience working with clients with severe and persistent mental illness.
  • Capacity to work well with children and families.
Mental/Physical Requirements
  • Ability to maintain audio and visual observation at all times.
  • Ability to stand and be mobile for long periods.
  • Ability to bend, twist, reach, hold and lift as needed to successfully evade and participate in protective holds against client weight (40–250lbs).
  • Ability to lift and carry items up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to remain calm and utilize safety training in potentially assaultive client interactions.
  • Ability to move quickly and confidently to assist or intervene in potentially stressful situations.
  • Successful completion of safety training, which includes demonstrating the ability to: maintain balance, torso twist, forward bend, pivot, sidestep, forward and backward step, crouch, move to secure limb, knee touch to ground, kneel, get up from floor sitting or kneeling position.
